Thoughtful Thursday: We Are Not The Same!

I have been taking some time off to do some training for Sandalphon’s Heart and Home, my upcoming orphanage/foster care center and any time you encounter new people it is certain you will be taking some time to get to know them and that means all of your preconceived notions about people who look a certain way or act a certain way go out the window. You can’t judge a book by its cover right. When I show up I am not the social butterfly in the bunch. I love to chat about interesting subjects or joke about something silly someone at my table noticed or just ask a few questions about how a person is doing or what they did over the weekend. That means, naturally, I am an introvert. Introverts keep to themselves mostly but they can be great communicators when they want to talk. I am a quiet person and that means I don’t chat it up right away, I don’t go from table to table to hang out with this person and that person, I sit at my table usually in the same place I always sit because it’s comfortable and now my territory, and then I stay quiet unless I am called on or unless I have a question or comment about what the facilitator is discussing. I sometimes hang out with a few people at lunch and other days I want to just be alone. The lone wolf Capricorn. My behavior can be perceived as standoffish, rude, shy or people might think that I think I am better than them and really I’m just an introvert. I watch, I observe, I listen and then speak if I need to and extroverts don’t do that. They love to talk all the time so we may not understand each other right off the bat and that means things can get misconstrued. So whenever you are in a room with a group of people or even just one other person, remember they are probably not like you and if you notice something about them that you never do maybe it’s because they think differently than you do and they are not you. Let’s be thoughtful about other people and their personalities because if someone immediately pegs my silence as someone who doesn’t like everybody else or someone who is judging everyone else then you don’t know me at all. Ask, get to know people, share your personality, and let people know how you communicate and if they ask or question your attitude and behavior let them know we are not the same – I am a quiet person and you love to talk or I love to talk and you seem like a quiet person. Don’t judge before you know and your world will be rich with so many people with diverse personalities which makes your relationships more interesting. If you hang out with people just like you then you run the risk of thinking everyone is or should be just like you and you may get offended and blind sided by your own ignorance. Be thoughtful……..
